Twist In Architecture were commissioned in summer of 2014 to propose a design for a hairdresser shop in trendy Brick Lane, east London.
The shop is located at the ground floor unit of a brand new building in the middle of history rich area in Brick Lane. We wanted to combine the opposites – contemporary design with an established Victorian themed hairdresser brand; and the rich street’s history with a new building.
The prevailing design theme is centred on the street’s name and history in making bricks with a take on rich immigration and variety of past and current communities in the neighbourhood. This is visible in 5 different brick portals in front of 5 hairdressing units – each modelled with a different type of a vintage or new brick with a suitable different bond. This brings warmth, differentiation, texture and decoration in otherwise a contemporary designed shop.
